Two stacked frosted cubes joined by a matt-black aluminium waist — the soft modernist outdoor light for new-build front doors, mews entrances, and barn conversions.
Hoxton is the outdoor wall light that wears its light through frosted glass-effect panels rather than open shutters. Two perfectly-square translucent acrylic cubes — one above, one below — are clamped together by a horizontal matt-black powder-coated cast-aluminium band that runs across the middle and houses the wall mount. When lit, the upper cube glows upward, the lower cube glows downward, and the central band stays dark; the result is a soft warm hourglass of 3000 K light pouring out of two diffuse panels with the central black bar running across like a stylised belt. The fixture itself reads as quietly architectural — contemporary, design-led, the right light for a modern front door without being loud about it.
Named for Hoxton Square — the east-end quarter where Squire & Partners offices sit alongside warehouse-converted lofts, where Crittall-glazed front doors meet polished concrete walls, where the language of the British contemporary architect-led house was largely written — Hoxton is the wall light for the modernist exterior. A single piece beside a steel-framed front door. A matched pair flanking a contemporary garage. A run along a smooth render boundary wall. Mounted on charred-larch cladding where the matt-black band disappears into the dark timber and only the two glowing cubes read.
What you should know up front
The 12 W LED is integrated — built into the fixture rather than a replaceable bulb. As with our other modern-architectural outdoor pieces, integrated LED is the industry standard at this price point, and the lifespan is real (rated to 25,000+ hours, roughly 8–10 years of typical UK exterior dusk-to-late-evening operation). Our heritage outdoor pieces — coach lamps and pier lights with replaceable bulbs — sit in a different sub-tier. Hoxton is for customers who want a clean Bauhaus-modernist outdoor light at a fair price.
The diffuser panels are a frosted acrylic with a glass-effect appearance. We've chosen to be honest about this rather than describe it as glass: at this price point, frosted acrylic is the appropriate material and it actually outperforms thin tempered glass for impact resistance and weather-sealing. The result is the same soft warm glow you would get from a frosted-glass diffuser, with better long-term durability.
Where it works best
Purpose-built for exterior use — beside a front door, on a garage wall, flanking a garden gate, or illuminating a covered patio. The frosted glass diffuses light evenly without glare, making it ideal for entrance lighting where you want welcoming warmth without harsh spotlighting.

Where it earns its place
Beside a Crittall-glazed front door of a warehouse-conversion loft, throwing soft warm hourglass washes onto polished concrete. Mounted on the charred-larch cladding of a Danish-modern barn conversion, where the matt-black band recedes into the dark timber and only the two glowing cubes float against the wall. Flanking a contemporary garage door in honey-coloured Cotswold ashlar, paired symmetrically. A row of three or four Hoxton pieces along a smooth render boundary wall, evenly spaced. Wherever the architecture wants modernist understatement rather than heritage decoration.
The companion piece in the catalogue
Hoxton is the soft modernist counterpart to our matt-black architectural Marylebone outdoor cube — same matt-black aluminium register, same up-and-down beam pattern, but where Marylebone projects open beam-shutter cones onto the wall (architectural, sharp, defined edges), Hoxton wears its light through frosted panels (modernist, soft, diffused). They are deliberately complementary. Marylebone outside the front door, Hoxton along the side return; or Marylebone for a Georgian-stuccoed townhouse, Hoxton for a contemporary new-build.
