The Cosmati is named for the Cosmati family of medieval Roman marble-workers — the craftsmen who laid the famous geometric pavement in Westminster Abbey, and whose name became a byword for considered, hand-laid decorative tradition. The lamp earns the reference: a sculptural ceramic base of three stacked rounded forms, finished in a deep indigo high-gloss glaze and finished to order.
The form is the bobbin tradition — a silhouette that has run through Mediterranean turning, English country-house joinery, and the contemporary ceramic studios reviving it today. It is a quiet, anchored shape: the kind of object that sits on a console for thirty years and looks better the longer it stays. Crowned with a crisp white drum shade that diffuses the light without competing with the sculpted base beneath.

Where it works best
The Cosmati is plug-and-play in the truest sense — a single E27 fitting and a UK three-pin flex, no electrician required. Its proportions (55 cm tall, 33 cm at the shade) are calibrated for residential surfaces: a console table in an entrance hall, a writing desk by a window, a bedside table where it serves as the principal reading light, or a low side table in a drawing room beside a wing-back chair. The deep indigo glaze pairs naturally with green panelled walls, oxblood lacquer, raw plaster, walnut, and the deep brass tones of a properly considered interior. Switch is on the flex.

Where it earns its place
On a console table in an entrance hall, where the deep indigo reads against a hand-printed wallpaper or panelled wall. On a writing desk under a window, throwing pooled warm light across letters and books. On a bedside table as the principal reading light, paired with its sister piece on the other side. On a side table beside a wing-back chair, in a drawing room arranged around a fire. The Cosmati is at its best in pairs, but holds its own as a single statement piece.
